Food Security in Pakistan
On 11th September, 2026, Dr. Zafar Hayat delivered a lecture discussion on "Food Security in Pakistan" to the participants of 40th Senior Management Course at NIPA Lahore. He highlighted food security as a multidimensional issue encompassing food availability. accessibility, utilization and stability, while discussing Pakistan's agricultural capacity, affordability, nutrition and vulnerability to climate-related shocks. The Guest Speaker discussed major challenges including climate change, water scarcity. agricultural productivity, food prices, poverty, nutrition, post-harvest losses and institutional coordination. He emphasized the need for climate-resilient agriculture, efficient water use, improved storage and market infrastructure, value-chain development and coordinated government policies. The session concluded with a discussion on adopting a long-term, resilience-oriented and whole-of-government approach to ensure sustainable food security in Pakistan.
