On Friday, December 08, 2023, Dr. Kaiser Bengali, former Advisor to the Chief Minister of Sindh for Planning & Development and Consultant for Economic Affairs addressed the participants of 34th SMC on “Services Sector Development in Pakistan”. He elaborated that the two largest service sectors are wholesale and Retail Trade and Transport sectors, which are spinoffs of commodity sector. Only a strong commodity sector provides strong base for development of the services sectors. He also stressed upon the need for having skilled and educated human resource and a developed urban infrastructure. He gave examples of Malaysia, India and South Korea, how they have developed sound educational systems which support their industrial development. He also underlined the need to reduce expenditure to get out of the debt trap and to reduce reliance on imported fuel. He ended his lecture by stressing the need to reduce 5% GST on goods as single stage tax and to improve the education system of country to produce qualified human resources.
