On Monday, October 7, 2024, Mr. Ahmad Rafay Alam, Environmental Expert addressed the participants of 36th SMC on “Environmental Management”. Mr. Rafey Alam delivered a comprehensive lecture on the core concepts of Environmental Management, focusing on protection, sustainable development, ecology, biodiversity, and pollution affecting natural elements and biological communities. He highlighted the importance of maintaining ecological balance and the need for sustainable practices to mitigate environmental degradation.

Alam discussed the issues surrounding Environmental Impact Analysis (EIA) and Environmental Safeguard Procedures (ESP), emphasizing their role in assessing and mitigating the effects of development projects. He pointed out that a lack of proper EIA and ESP implementation often leads to long-term environmental damage.

The lecture also covered provincial regulatory regimes, examining how local governments enforce environmental protection laws. Alam outlined recent government initiatives aimed at curbing environmental degradation, including stricter enforcement of pollution controls and conservation efforts.

Lastly, he provided an overview of international and national legal frameworks, stressing the importance of global cooperation and strong institutional support for effective environmental protection in Pakistan.
