A workshop on “Analytical Writing” was arranged by National Institute of Public Administration Lahore on Tuesday, 5th August, 2025. Dr. Saima Jabeen enlightened the audience with valuable insights into analytical writing and its structuring.

The guest speaker explained that in order to write analytically, it is essential to understand and learn effective writing. She explained that effective analytical writing leads to effective communication. She also talked about the importance of critical thinking in analytical writing.

The guest speaker elaborated upon the components of analytical writing; a clear and appropriate introduction, concise thesis statement that outlines the writer’s main argument, evidence and examples that support the thesis, an examination of alternative perspectives and counterarguments, appropriate citation, clarity and coherence and concise conclusion. Analytical writing requires the writer to engage in critical thinking, research, and evaluation, and to effectively communicate his insights and perspectives on a topic. The guest speaker explained that official notes, summaries and drafting is the kind of analytical writing that is required of civil servants and they should try to make these writings as effective and as meaningful as possible. During the interactive session, the guest speaker gave several hands-on exercises to the participants to assess their analytical writing acumen and reviewed their stance.
