On September 8th, 2025, National Institute of Public Administration Lahore held a panel discussion on “Development of Arts & Literature and their Impact on Pakistani Society” for 38^th SMC participants. Prof. Dr. Asghar Nadeem Syed a renowned poet, playwright and teacher and Prof. Sajida Haider Vandal an acclaimed architect and educationist, were the two panelists who presented the case for the development of arts and literature in Pakistan.

Prof. Sajida Vandal spoke first and elaborated on the historical context of art in Pakistan, she referred to prehistoric civilizations such as Gandhara and Mohenjo Daro that laid emphasis on art. She discussed the great masters such as Chugtai, Shakir Ali and Sadequain. She also highlighted the works of contemporary artists such as Shazia Sikander and Ali Kazim.

Prof. Dr. Asghar Nadeem Syed extrapolated that societies thrive when they focus on literature and philosophy. He highlighted that Pakistan has had renowned writers, poets, philosophers, thinkers, intellectuals and artists who paved the way for the development of contemporary Pakistani literature. He pointed out that even in this age of AI; literature, music, dance, theatre and cinema can grow. He further said that a rounded education and a supportive social structure may pave the way for future literary giants.

At the conclusion of the panel discussion Prof. Dr. Asghar Nadeem Syed and Prof. Sajida Haider Vandal, both reiterated that Pakistan has the potential to contribute to art and literature globally.
