On Monday, 16th March 2026, a workshop on Public Sector Project Management was organized for the participants of the 39th Senior Management Course (SMC) at the National Institute of Public Administration, Lahore. The session was facilitated by Dr. Atiq ur Rehman and focused on strengthening participants’ understanding of project planning, implementation, and evaluation within the public sector framework.
Dr. Rehman discussed project management in the context of the requirements of the Planning Commission and the Provincial Planning and Development Departments. He outlined the key stages of the public sector project management cycle and highlighted how an effective project management framework helps optimize the allocation and integration of inputs, outputs, and outcomes to achieve development objectives.
The workshop examined mechanisms for monitoring project progress, including midterm reviews and the adoption of corrective measures where deviations occur. A detailed discussion was also held on project risk analysis and stakeholder management.
The workshop included a group exercise on public sector project management, allowing participants to examine practical challenges encountered during implementation. The exercise provided the participants with a practical learning experience relevant to real world public sector development initiatives.
