A workshop on “Analytical Writing” was arranged by National Institute of Public Administration Lahore on Thursday, 4^th December, 2025. Dr. Saima Jabeen enlightened the participants of 45^th MCMC with valuable insights into analytical writing and its structuring through various hands-on exercises.

The guest speaker started the session by explaining that in order to write analytically, it is essential to understand and learn effective writing. She stated that effective analytical writing leads to effective communication. Analytical writing starts with critical thinking which is the process of objectively and logically analyzing information and arguments to form a judgement or solve a problem. Analytical writing also shows relationships between pieces of information since it compares, contrasts, assesses or evaluates.

The guest speaker also explained the components of analytical writing including: a clear and appropriate introduction, concise thesis statement that outlines the writer’s main argument, evidence and examples that support the thesis, an examination of alternative perspectives and counterarguments, appropriate citation, clarity and coherence and concise conclusion. Analytical writing requires the writer to engage in critical thinking, research, and evaluation, and to effectively communicate his/her insights and perspectives on a topic. The guest speaker discussed official notes, summaries, drafting and preparing policy briefs and how writings can be made as effective and meaningful as possible. She gave hands-on exercise to the participants throughout the workshop to make participants practice effective analytical writing for their official working.
