A full day workshop on “Cybersecurity and the Development and Use of IT Applications” was held on August 13th, 2025 for participants of the 44th Mid-Career Management Course (MCMC). Led by Dr. Haider Abbas and Dr. Ayesha Altaf and sponsored by Dr. Jawad Tariq Awan, the session outlined the contemporary cyberthreat landscape and underscored the imperative of protecting personal, organizational, and national digital assets. Dr. Abbas, Director General of Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team (NCERT), surveyed threats ranging from ransomware and phishing to Al enabled crimes and deepfakes, and discussed risks to critical infrastructure and operational technologies. Dr. Altaf complemented these insights with practical exercises on phishing detection, ransomware response, password hygiene, device and external media practices, and the adoption of multifactor authentication, secure data exchange, and regular training aligned with institutional policy. The workshop framed cybersecurity as a leadership and governance priority.
