On 28th September, 2023 a workshop was conducted by Dr. Ihsan Ayub Qazi, an Assistant Professor at LUMS with Ph.D degree in Computer Sciences from Pittsburgh. PA, USA. The speaker is proficient in Data Analysis and the theme of the workshop was Using Data Analytics for Improved Service Delivery.

Dr. Ihsan Ayub Qazi talked about the importance of data and referred to an article in “The Economist, wherein DATA had been declared as a more valuable resource than oil. He affirmed the same claim by giving the argument that collective worth of the world’s leading companies in IT Sector was more than that of oil companies. The speaker, while explaining the uses of data stated that data gives an actionable insight into what is happening, what will happen in the future and what we can do in future with the data analysis. These insights are then put into action plans which help in formulation of effective policies for better service delivery. He stated that this cycle establishes the effectiveness of a government. He reinforced his point with the example of Estonia, which is number one in e-governance because all citizens have personal data in national database and every policy or decisions is made considering data as a whole. Nevertheless, the speaker emphasized on the importance of data authenticity and reliability in the context of digital governance, which is prone to misinformation. He used a case study of fake news to establish this point and also talked of adequate literacy to detect such misinformation. He ended the session with a brief mention of a case study where data analytics can help in improving court system in Pakistan, thereby improving the image of judiciary before a common citizen of Pakistan.
