On Friday, 23^rd June, 2023, National Institute of Management, Lahore arranged a workshop with honorable guest speaker Mr. Mohsin Must tag Chandana, on the topic of “Decision Making and Problem Solving” for the participants of 37^th MCMC. The guest speaker pointed out that we are taking decisions on daily basis and decision making is a process through which managers identify organizational problems and try to resolve them in the best way possible. He described that the problem area in decision making is discrepancy between an existing and desired state of affairs. Decision making at all levels has a different degree of significance i.e, decisions at lower level of official management may not be that effective, whereas at a higher-level good decision making is required to achieve organizational goals.

The guest speaker explained the term decision’ as a choice from two or more alternatives and a commitment to action, usually it’s a commitment of allocation of resources. It signals an explicit intent to act. He further narrated that decision making is a cognitive process of selecting a course of action from multiple alternatives. It is a psychological construct: although we can never ‘see’ a decision, we can ‘infer’ from observable behavior that a decision has been made. The honorable guest speaker emphasized that “Problem Solving and Decision Making” are important life skills. As public servants, officers need to focus on learning rational and impartial techniques of Problem Solving and Decision Making.
