A workshop on “Engaging Media for Effective Service Delivery” was conducted on 2nd August, 2023 at NIM, Lahore with an aim to enlighten the participants of 37th MCMC. The workshop was conducted by Syed Talat Hussain, a senior anchorperson and known analyst.

In the first part of the workshop, Mr. Talat focused on the use of technology and camera for effective service delivery. He started by narrating five stories that described how the use of CCTV enhanced the efficiency and performance of the departments. The esteemed speaker described that the use of modern technology and communication can help to make life easier. He reiterated that the focus of all stories is on technology, transparency, real-time information, and most importantly undiluted feedback loop. He emphasized that geotagging is a wonderful invention of the modern age. It can help every department because it gives picture of infrastructure and topography. Then esteemed speaker defined media information and explained it as any difference that makes a difference. He outlined many sources of information and explained to the participants how systems, rules, institutions, habits, culture, and experiences become sources of information in the modern age.

The honorable guest speaker emphasized that the role of media in public service delivery has increased tremendously in recent years due to an exponential growth in the media industry and a mediatization of politics. The 24/7 news cycle that comes with an in-depth coverage of news and events and a faster pace of news production has dramatically changed the environment. In this scenario, the understanding and engaging media by civil servants has become highly significant.
