On February 13, 2025, the National Institute of Public Administration, Lahore, hosted Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed for a lecture on “Overview of Pakistan’s Relations with China.”

The speaker provided an in-depth analysis of the evolving Pakistan-China relations, contextualizing it within the broader global shift from Western to Eastern power dynamics. He highlighted China’s growing influence, citing its advancements in high-tech manufacturing and AI, and the shift in trade patterns with 140 countries now trading more with China than the US. The historical phases pf Pak-China relations were outlined, beginning with Pakistan’s recognition of China in 1950, followed by the 1962 Sino-India war, strategic cooperation in the 1960s-1980s, and the development of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in the 2000s. The speaker emphasized China’s role in supporting Pakistan’s security, economy, and development, despite challenges such as security threats to Chinese personnel and political instability in Pakistan. He attributed China’s rise to its strategic culture, leadership, policy continuity, and peaceful foreign policy, with China providing diplomatic support to Pakistan in international forums.
