On Thursday, 04^th April 2024, Dr. Hassan Askari Rizvi, Ex-Caretaker Chief Minister, Punjab, addressed the lecture-discussion on “Pakistan: State and Society”, to the participants of the 35^th SMC.

During the lecture discussion, Dr. Hassan discussed the historical progression of the state system and the evolution of the modern state as Westphalian model. He explained nation-state model in Pakistan, with a particular focus on ethnic, cultural, and anti-colonial political nationalism. The Islamic viewpoint on statehood, including the intricate relationship between religion and the state, was thoroughly examined. The lecture encompassed the metamorphosis of Pakistani society, spanning from age-old traditions to the transitions brought about by Industrialization and the post-industrial era. Additionally, Dr. Hassan explored social contract theories, the ascent of democratic societies, and the limitations imposed on state authority.
