A workshop on “Performance Management in Public Sector” was conducted on Monday, 27th January 2025 at National Institute of Public Administration, Lahore. Aim of the workshop was to equip participants of 42nd MCMC with knowledge about evaluation of existing Performance Management System, key components of Performance Management System (planning, monitoring, rating, rewarding), understanding Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Target Setting, developing Performance Management System and operational and Administrative Key Performance Indicators specific to participants’ organizations, significance of “Employee Development Plans” and relevant tools and techniques for Job Specification and Job Description.

The guest speaker conducted the session in two parts. First, he elaborated upon SMART Goals, few internationally acclaimed Performance Review methods, role and importance of KPI’s in Performance Appraisal, 3 E’s Model for developing KPI’s, etc. He kept the session interactive and answered questions and queries of the participants during the discussion. Second, he facilitated a simulation exercise involving syndicate groups wherein each syndicate was tasked with developing of KPI’s as DG Civic Development, Gwadar development authority, (GDA) for four areas of Infrastructure, Environment, Safety (Housing and Social Inclusion) and Education, Health and Culture. The guest speaker kept explaining the deficiencies of the KPI’s being presented. The workshop offered the participants an opportunity to engage with the guest speaker and seek clarity on various aspects of Performance Management in Public Sector in Pakistan.
