On September 30th, 2025, Mr. Hanif Gul, Chief Operating Superintendent, Pakistan Railways gave an absorbing lecture to the participants of 38th SMC on “Road Map for Revival of Pakistan Railways”. The guest speaker gave an overview of the current position of Pakistan Railway and elaborated the path Pakistan Railway must undertake to ensure its progress and viability.
Mr. Hanif Gul spoke at length with regards to the outdated infrastructure and aging system of Railway and how it lags far behind even its regional contemporaries such as Iran and India. He detailed the functional and technical issues being faced by Railways which has led to slow speeds of its trains and lack of connectivity between train stations. The consumer has lost trust in the efficacy and reliability of Pakistan Railway, due to frequent train delays and cancellations.
Mr. Hanif Gul recommended a comprehensive overhaul of Pakistan Railway to revive its fortunes and to provide the consumer with a viable travel option. He suggested institutional reform, tech savvy management, and effective decision making by the top Railway hierarchy as a way to move forward. He also suggested Pakistan Railways take provinces on board for its future road map and diversify its revenue generating enterprises so as to be self-sufficient as an organization.
