On Thursday, November 7, 2024, Mr. Shoaib mir, former chief secretary, addressed the participants of 36th SMC on “socio-Cultural Diversities within Sindh Province and their Impact on Public Service Management”. Mr. Shoaib Mir gave an informative lecture on the topic “Socio-Cultural Diversity in Sindh Province and Implication for Public Sector Management.” He initially followed up elaboration on the nature of socio cultural diversities in Sindh that are much more composite in nature. Mr. Mir also outlined the historical aspects of the region, which owns Sindhi, Mohajir, Punjabi, Baloch and other groups of persons. Every group has different cultural practices, language, and traditions and together they add value to Sindh’s cultural diversity. He pointed out how these differences in turn can add value to society but also how they pose issues regarding integrated aspect of public Service delivery, thereby call for an appreciation of the divergent and sometimes conflicting needs and wants of each community.

The second part of the lecture highlighted challenges that arise from such diversities and focused especially in ethnic relations and politics. He pointed out that exclusion can exacerbate the grievance situation, hence, effective stability and order in the administration of public services.

At the end of the lecture Mr. Mir presented the Key measures to mitigate these challenges. He suggested that multiculturalism should be extended through the adoption of policies that promote ethnic incessive ness.
