A series of workshops on “Stress Management, Anger Management, and Emotional Intelligence” were conducted on 25th, 26th and 27th September, 2023 respectively at NIM, Lahore with an aim to enlighten the participants of 38th MCMC.
The workshops were conducted by Dr. Saad Bashir Malik, a renowned Psychiatrist. The honorable guest speaker pointed out that effective stress management helps us break the hold that stress has on our lives. We can be happier, healthier, and more productive by managing our anger. Dr. Malik described various angles of anger and described it as an emotion making one lose judgment and insight. Anger is the most toxic, dangerous and contagious of all the emotions experienced by humans. Anger makes one feel pain for the mistakes of others and while one is going through this emotion, one can surely harm one’s self, rather than others. He gave an interesting proposition regarding anger that it may come alone, but it leaves by taking everything along with it. He emphasized 80% of success depends upon the emotional intelligence. In this context, example of a doctor was given who manages the patients well by giving them patient hearing, managing their emotions as compared to the doctor who is unable to manage the emotions of his or her patients. In this case, the former will be a more successful professional.
The Intelligence Quotient (IQ) of an average person keeps on improving till the age of 25, whereas the Emotional Quotient (EQ) keeps on accumulating till death. If one can handle emotions, he or she is more likely to be successful. The ultimate goal of utilizing emotional intelligence is to have a balanced life, with reasonable time for work, relationships, and relaxation. This makes us resilient to stand strong under pressure.
